In brief

West Ham United return to Barclays Premier League action following the international break on Monday night when they travel to Hull City.

Both teams were active towards the end of the summer transfer window, with midfielders Alex Song and Morgan Amalfitano bolstering the Hammers' ranks as the deadline neared.

Hull boss Steve Bruce added Gaston Ramirez, Abel Hernandez, Hatem Ben Arfa and Mohamed Diame on 31 August so both teams could have a fresh look.

West Ham were defeated 3-1 by Southampton last time out and currently sit 14th in the table with three points from as many games. Hull are three places higher having taken a point more.

Last season, both sides won their home games in this match-up, Hull triumphing 1-0 at the KC Stadium, before West Ham won 2-1 at the Boleyn Ground.

Tactically speaking - Hull City

Who are they?

Hull City were formed in 1904 and arguably reached a high point in their history last season when they made the FA Cup final and qualified for the UEFA Europa League.

Their previous best run in the competition came back in 1930 when they were semi-finalists, and in May they were 2-0 up before Arsenal eventually came back to win 3-2 after extra-time.

The Tigers have twice been promoted to the Barclays Premier League in recent times, winning a Play-Off final against Bristol City in 2008 and finishing as Championship runners-up in 2013.

Their KC Stadium opened for business in 2002, taking over from Boothferry Park, Hull's home of 56 years.

Team news

West Ham United

Andy Carroll (ankle), Matt Jarvis (thigh) and Carl Jenkinson (hamstring) remain sidelined for the trip to Hull City on Monday.

However, James Collins returns to the fold after overcoming a hamstring problem and new signings Alex Song and Morgan Amalfitano are available.

Hull City

Steve Bruce's thoughts will be taken up by which of his new signings to start on Monday. Former Hammer Mo Diame will want to take on his former side, while Hatem Ben Arfa and Gaston Ramirez might be eased in due to a lack of match fitness.

Abel Hernandez is still awaiting work permit clearance so will be unable to play unless that comes through in time.

Meanwhile, James Chester is back from suspension, but Andrew Robertson is battling a calf injury.

Referee

Monday's match referee will be Martin Atkinson.  A referee since the age of 16, Atkinson was promoted to the Football League list of assistant referees in 1998. In 2000, Atkinson was promoted to the Select Group of assistant referees, allowing him to run the line in Premier League matches.

He joined the National List of referees for the Football League at the start of the 2003/04 season before taking charge of his first Premier League fixture on 20 April 2005 when Manchester City entertained Birmingham City. He was the man in the middle at the 2006 FA Community Shield between Chelsea and Liverpool at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. He also took charge of the 2008 FA Trophy final between Ebbsfleet United and Torquay United at Wembley Stadium.

Atkinson last refereed the Hammers on the final day of last season, when Manchester City clinched the Barclays Premier League title with a 2-0 win at Etihad Stadium.

One to watch

West Ham United

Alex Song could make his West Ham United debut on Monday after linking up with the Club on a season-long loan from FC Barcelona.

The 27-year-old midfielder possesses plenty of Premier League experience having turned out for Arsenal between 2006-12 and adds healthy competition in the middle of the park.

A La Liga winner from his time in Spain, Song can play as a central or defensive midfielder, also filling in at0 centre-half on occasion.

He was named in the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations Team of the Tournament.

Hull City

Former Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone enjoyed a fine 2013/14 season, anchoring the Tigers midfielder as they successfully negotiated their first season back in the top flight and reached the FA Cup final.

Huddlestone, 27, played 36 of the club's 38 league games and finally ended a goalscoring drought, which stretched back three seasons and allowed him a trip to the barbers!

A product of Derby County's academy, he started his senior career with the Rams before moving on to Tottenham in 2005. He played 144 league games for Spurs and left for Hull last summer. He has been capped four times by England.

Tickets

Tickets will remain on sale from the Hammers' Ticket Office until 10am on Monday morning. After that time, tickets will only be available through cash turnstiles 1-5 at the KC Stadium on the evening of the match.

Travel
