Wigan Athletic and Ipswich Town meet tonight with the Championship table starting to take shape after the eighth game week of the new season.
After a fantastic second half of the season last year, Wigan forced themselves into the play-offs, with the arrival of Uwe Rosler giving the Latics fresh ideas and the former Brentford boss is looking to replicate the type of attacking football he was renowed for at previous club.
Despite finishing strongly in the last campaign, they have yet to find any consistency this season, taking just eight points from their first seven matches. bet365 price them at 11/10 (2.10) to win.
Ipswich Town have won their last two matches in the league, beating Millwall and Brighton & Hove Albion, so will come into this game with confidence.
Mick McCarthy’s side have yet to win on the road though, drawing with Birmingham and Derby and losing their first away match to Reading in August. bet365 price the Tractor Boys at 14/5 (3.80) to win, with the same first pricing the draw at 5/2 (3.50).
It could be a low scoring match tonight, with under 2.5 goals paying out in Ipswich's last four matches, as well as three of the Latics last five. However, with bet365 pricing this at 7/10 (1.70), it's worth looking elsewhere for value.
Last season Wigan did the double over Ipswich, winning 2-0 at home before running out 3-1 victors at Portman Road. Although they haven’t won in their last two matches, it’s worth siding with the home side, who have won twice and drawn once in their opening three games at the DW Stadium this season.
The Latics were very solid at home in the second half of last season, losing twice and winning seven times in their final 12 games in Lancashire. In contrast Ipswich struggled away, losing half of their away games from the end of December.
With a strong head-to-head record against Mick McCarthy’s side, expect Uwe Rosler to gain the upper hand once more this evening, with Wigan the bet at 11/10 (2.10).
