The squad contains no uncapped players and just one player from the Western Sydney Wanderers team that won the AFC Champions League, captain Nikolai Topor-Stanley.

There were recalls for Brisbane Roar star Matt McKay, who received a red card in his only A-League match this year, Mitch Nichols (Perth Glory), Terry Antonis (Sydney FC) and Aaron Mooy (Melbourne City), but no room for Wanderers heroes Tomi Juric, Ante Covic and Matthew Spiranovic.

McKay will be making his first appearance for the Socceroos since undergoing surgery after the 2014 FIFA World Cup while Antonis, Mooy and Nichols have an opportunity to push their claims for a place in the squad for the AFC Asian Cup 2015 Australia.

Postecoglou kept up his habit of tinkering with squads, with five changes to the group that played United Arab Emirates and Qatar in October with McKay, Nichols, Antonis, Mooy and Robbie Kruse coming in for Adam Federici, Bernie Ibini, Juric and Brad Smith.
