Celtic v Aberdeen FC preview

ASHTON Taylor is expected to partner Mark Reynolds in the Dons defence at Celtic tomorrow.

Skipper Russell Anderson is recovering from knee surgery and will be out for more than a month.

Summer signing Taylor is likely to be the preferred replacement in central defence for the Scottish Premiership clash at Parkhead.

Jeffrey Monakana is unlikely to make the Dons squad.

The winger is battling back to fitness from a back injury.

Monakana, on loan from Brighton, is back in training and getting closer to fitness, with a number of sessions with sports science coach Graham Kirk.

Clark Robertson will also be sidelined after he picked up an injury in Scotland U21s’ 1-1 draw in Slovakia last week. He will be out for up to six weeks.

Celtic will welcome back defender Virgil van Dijk.

The centre-back was left out of the squad which drew 1-1 at Dundee, as boss Ronny Deila said his head was not in the right place after missing out on a deadline day move to England.

Van Dijk was called up to the Holland squad, but did not feature, as they lost 2-1 away to the Czech Republic in the Euro 2016 qualifier on Tuesday.

New signings Stefan Scepovic, John Guidetti and Mubarak Wakaso have been added to the Cletic squad to face the Dons.

A win for Derek McInnes’ side could mean they leapfrog champions Celtic and move up to fourth place.

The Hoops have had a poor start to the season, having been dumped out of the Champions League twice and dropped five points in the league already.

Aberdeen FC were the only team to beat Celtic in the Scottish Premiership last season, with a 2-1 win at Pittodrie in February.

The Dons also dumped them out of the Scottish Cup earlier that month with a 2-1 win at Parkhead.

In their last five meetings, the Dons have won twice and been beaten three times.

Tomorrow’s match will be screened live on Sky Sports at 12.45pm.
