Boss happy to have selection headache as Blues look to continue the winning streak against the Owls tonight
Mick McCarthy has welcomed the selection headache he has following recent additions to his squad and the return of players from injury.
The arrival of Jonny Williams on loan from Crystal Palace until January has increased the competition for places, particularly in midfield with Jack Collison and Darren Ambrose also available after signing short term contracts.
Cameron Stewart is closing in on a return to action after sustaining a fractured jaw in pre-season, then a knee injury while playing for the U21s a week ago and Stephen Hunt has recovered from a calf problem and is included in the squad for the trip to Sheffield Wednesday tonight.
“It has changed around a bit and there is pressure on one or two of them now to keep their places,” the Town boss told the Club website.
“We’ve signed Jack and Darren, Teddy Bishop has come into the team and ripped it up. Kevin Bru has done well, now we’ve got Jonny in the mix as well so we’ve got options.
“Sometimes you think you’ve got a problem picking a side, the next you’ve got injuries and suspensions and it all changes again but it’s nice to have that competition for places we have at the moment.”
While Mick is keeping his team under wraps ahead of the clash with Wednesday, he sees Jonny as a regular in the team going forward.

“There were lots of clubs in for Jonny but he knows all about us and he enjoyed it here last season,” added Mick.
“I think he was concerned whether he was going to play, with us having won four on the bounce. Neil [Warnock] will want him to play for certain but he knows we are on a good run as well.
“Whether he comes in straightaway, we will have to wait and see but Jonny was great for us last season and anyone that thinks he is going to sit on the bench here is going to be mistaken.
“He played behind Murph last season and did very well. That looks his kind of position and if he brings the same style and flair as he did last year, we will be delighted.”

Town boss Mick McCarthy has plenty of options at his disposal and could hand a debut to midfielder Jonny Williams, after he joined from Crystal Palace yesterday. Jack Collison and Cameron Stewart are also available to make their Town debuts if selected by the boss, although doubts remain over Cole Skuse who continues to nurse a toe injury.
Sheffield Wednesday will be without the services of former Town youngster Caolan Lavery, who is sidelined for the Owls through injury. Defender Tom Lees misses out with a hamstring problem, although Kamil Zayatte could return after serving a suspension.
